Star Wars Lego Price Guide

BrickWars Sets Description

Lego 8087 Star Wars TIE Defender was a high-performance starfighter designed for the Imperial Navy. Unlike other TIE fighters, the TIE defender was equipped with its own hyperdrive and deflector shields, which allowed it to operate without Imperial capital ships. The starfighter also had considerable firepower and was agile, making it one of the most advanced starfighters of its time. The TIE defender was armed with four SFS L-s9.3 laser cannons, two Borstel NK-3 medium ion cannons, two SFS M-g-2 general-purpose warhead launchers, up to four missiles of various payloads, and ocassionally a tractor beam projector. However, these advanced features made the TIE defender a very costly starfighter to produce. As such, the TIE defender never saw widespread use. Instead, they were given to only the most elite of Imperial pilots.

The Lego 8087 TIE Defender contains 304 pieces and includes 2 minifigures.

LEGO have produced another fine ship to add to your Iperial fleet with this new TIE Defender. It has a unique design and looks great!

PROS:

The TIE Fighter Pilot's helmet has some nice detail and stays true to the films. It is a rare minifigure so I am happy to have got one with this set. Of course, the Stormtrooper is nothing special but it is a welcome addition to any Imperial army.

The design of the Defender itself is very sleek. I love the mechanism through which you can turn the wings, but the cockpit stays vitrually still. It has a certain unique maneuverability which is great for its playability.

Furthermore, the colour scheme perfectly captures the Imperial scheme seen in the film.

CONS: As previously mentioned, the Stormtrooper is nothing special. Perhaps LEGO could have included an Imperial officer, a Shadow Trooper or even a Rebel. The wings, although they look great, have a very repetitive build - you are building virtually the same thing SIX times! Finally, the pricing, as usual, is way too high. £40 is far too much for a set which only contains two minifigures and 304 pieces! £30, which is what I paid on Amazon.com, is a far more reasonable price.

So, to recap:

PROS:
Nice Tie Fighter Pilot
TIE Defender has a nice colour scheme.
Wing mechanism works well - great playability.

CONS:
It's overpriced, as are many other 2010 sets.
The build gets a bit repetitive.

OVERALL:
Personally, I really like this set. If the price had been a little better - even £35 would have been ok - then I think it would be perfect! Well done LEGO! I hope this review helped!

TIE Defender Set Number: 8087

Pros
1. Unique design
2. About bleeding time it was made in to a official set
3. No stickers
4. Cool swivel cockpit
5. Nice flick fire missiles

Con's
1. No vehicle for the Storm Trooper.

Remarks: After getting my hands on this set I have found that it was about bleeding time that they made this Tie Fighter in Lego. I have enjoyed the time that I have spent on building this set and hope to see some more Tie Fighters come out. It also looks quite good next to my set: 8017 Darth Vader's Tie Fighter.
