BrickWars Sets Description

Lego Star Wars Set 7259 ARC-170 Starfighter from “Revenge of the Sith” stood for Aggressive ReConnaissance starfighter. It was a heavy starfighter/bomber widely used by the Republic navy in the latter days of the Clone Wars. The ARC-170 was a predecessor to the T-65 X-Wing starfighter mainly utilized by the Alliance to restore order to the Republic. Similar to the designs of its time, the ARC starfighter had a narrow spaceframe flanked with large engines. In addition, an S-foil system assisted in radiating heat and aided the starfighter’s shielding, which provided increased stability during atmospheric flight. The front deflector shield projectors dispersed heat generated from air resistance allowed the ARC-170 to attain super sonic speeds in atmospheric flight. The ARC-170 differed from other starfighter designs of the Clone Wars era, which were smaller, faster, and more maneuverable, thus sacrificing heavy weapons, shields and hyperdrives. Conversely, the ARC starfighter was large, rugged, and able to carry out long indepenent operations. It measured 14.5 meters in length, 22.6 meters in width, height of 4.78 meters, and a maximum speed of 44.000 kph with deflector shields activated. The ARC has a hyperdrive range of 5,000 light years, countermeasures such as shielding from enemy fire and powerful sensors, scanners and jamming devices. The armament consisted of two forward-mounted laser cannons, two rear mounted laser cannons, proton torpedo launcher capable of launching six torpedoes. The crew included; a pilot, co-pilot, gunner and an R2 series astromech droid.

The Lego 7259 ARC-170 Starfighter contains 396 pieces and includes 4 minifigures.

LEGO STAR WARS 7259: ARC-170

This set took me a few hours to build and it has some lovely features. It was bigger than I thought it would be and came with three minifigures. I think the price let it down though.

PROS:
The set came with three Clone Pilots, all featuring some very detailed helmets. The ARC-170 was very authentic, complete with multiple side mounted cannons and a bomb-dropping function. The three Clones are seated in a line and the back two feature opening cockpits. I find it clever how they incorporate the Astromech Droid in between the cockpits, so it stays in during battle, even when the fighter does special maneuvers.

I love the wing mechanism, enabling them to switch from normal mode to attack mode by the twist of a small wheel concealed at the rear end of the fighter. The engines on the side are detailed and well-placed and the set is in good proportion to the real thing.

CONS: None

Overall, this set has authentic features, lovely precision and accuracy and it is fun. When combined with Anakin's starfighter and the Vulture Droid, the Droid Tri Fighter and the V-Wing, you can recreate the brilliant battle over Coruscant that began episode III. I give this set 10 out of 10.
