BrickWars Sets Description

The Lego 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter is an assault starfighter from the Star Wars universe. It is also known as the Incom T-65 X-Wing and was used as the Rebel Alliance’s primary starfighter. This particular fighter was piloted by Luke Skywalker and was featured in the first two films of the Original Trilogy.

The X-Wing was a balanced, all-around starfighter. Its name comes from its wing formation in combat mode, which resembles an X. The wings, called S-foils, extend out from the fighter’s fuselage. Equipped to each wing was a Taim & Bak KX9/IX4 laser cannon, giving the X-Wing a total of four laser cannons. These laser cannons could be programmed to fire in several different ways. Single fire was a mode where each cannon fired individually; dual fire was a mode where two cannons diagonally across from each other fired and switched off with the other pair; quad fire was a mode where all four laser cannons fired at once; stutter fire was a mode where low-powered beams fired rapidly from all four cannons. The ship was also armed with two Krupx MG7 proton torpedo launchers. In terms of defense and maintenance, the fighter sported a Chempat “Defender” deflector shield generator and allotted space behind the cockpit for an astromech droid. While the astromech on the ship could attend to any necessary repairs, it also helped with navigation. The hull of the ship was made from titanium alloy as well. Additionally, the X-Wing had its own on-board hyperdrive system, which eliminated any dependence it may have had on the larger transport ships. For propulsion, the fighter had four Incom 4L4 fusial thrust engines, which shone a bright pink color when the engines fired up. The ship had great maneuverability in addition to all of the aforementioned armaments, equipment and features, making it a formidable starfighter capable of holding its own in all respects – battles, patrols, strike teams, and even ambushes.

Red Five was a call sign given to Luke Skywalker after he joined Red Squadron. In Episode IV: A New Hope, He replaced the previous pilot, Jal Te Gniev, who had fallen ill, for the Battle of Yavin. It was Skywalker who made it into one of the Death Star’s trenches, which lead directly to the thermal exhaust port. There, he fired off his only payload of proton torpedoes and used the force to direct them down the port, striking the battle station’s core and completely destroying it. Skywalker kept the fighter and used it in many battles to come. In Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, he escapes on this starfighter after the Rebels are ousted from their Hoth base by Imperial forces. He ends up on the planet of Dagobah, where Skywalker’s poor judgment ended up in his losing the starfighter, which sank into the swamp. Later, after meeting Yoda, the Jedi Master lifts his ship out of the swamp, allowing Skywalker to head to the planet of Bespin to save his friends from Darth Vader. When Darth Vader defeats him on Cloud City, he is rescued by his friends in the Millennium Falcon, leaving his X-Wing starfighter behind. In Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Skywalker presumably receives a new starfighter, which he uses to return to Dagobah to see Yoda. Afterwards, he rendezvous with Rebel Alliance forces near Sullust, where he and a small strike team descend to the planet of Endor to take out the Empire’s shield generator.
